Running

I run a bit. I’ve run a few races from 5ks to marathons, but mostly I run for the enjoyment and the physical benefits. This week I had the opportunity to do a run that I’ve always wanted to do, but had never been able to accomplish. I was in New York City for a few days and found time in my schedule to go for a run in Central Park. It was a wonderful experience to be in this lovely park with its trees and flowers in the middle of the vast forest of skyscrapers, as I moved about with other runners, bikers, walkers and playing school children. It was also inspiring to run along a route that is the finishing portion of the New York Marathon.

Often when I run I find that it is a good time for prayer and spiritual reflection. There are a few key Bible verses that have become meaningful to me as a runner and these verses are great motivation to all of us who are running through the experiences of life.

“But those who hope in the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“….Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1

May God go with you as you run and may you finish well!
